CCHS Band Performs at the Executive Mansion

The Charles City High School Band Program received a special invitation to perform at the Executive Mansion of Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe on December 6, 2015 in Richmond, VA. Governor Terry McAuliffe and Virginia’s first lady, Dorothy McAuliffe hosted a reception for the families of deployed Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen. Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran, Deputy Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Adam Thiel, Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, and members of the Virginia National Guard Family Programs Office were among the special guests present to recognize the service of the deployed service members. The Charles City High School Band provided holiday themed and patriotic music for the hosts and guests. The band was composed of 10 students from 9th through 12th grade who rehearsed 15 songs for 45 combined rehearsal hours. The band received high praises from the Executive Mansion Director and many others for their performance.  The students and accompanying parents were honored and excited to be part of such a wonderful event.   They were able to participate in activities and even got a chance to chat and take photos with the Governor.

In addition to the band’s performance, our Art Department also presented a custom holiday ornament to the Governor and the First Lady that was placed on the Executive Mansion Christmas Tree.  Kudos to Mr. Bruce Person, Ms. Lauren Wood, and our students for proudly representing Charles City High School and Charles City County.
