Get to know Ms. Hawkins, our English Teacher

Hello and welcome to my web page. My name is Brenda Hawkins. This is my 24th year as a teacher in the Charles City County Public School District and I am honored to be teaching in this school division. I have been teaching the students of Charles City as an English teacher of grades 9-12 and Journalism.   I cherish all the opportunities and experiences I have had throughout the years with the families and students of this county. My job has given me the chance to share my love of language, reading and writing with our students. Communication through the spoken and written word is the key to success for our students, and I am determined to afford my students every opportunity to experience both.

I grew up in the east end of Richmond, VA and attended Armstrong High School. I received my bachelor’s degree in English from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland where I lived for 10 years. I have taken many graduate courses over the years and earned Teacher of the Year honors twice at Charles City High School. I come from a large family and am very devoted to them. In fact, most Sundays, I can be found cooking big dinners for everyone. On the sports front, I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoy watching college basketball, specifically, the Rams of VCU.
